Meta Ads & Performance Marketing

How to Improve Your ROAS Enough to Make Your Competitors Jealous!

Fix broken landing pages, audience overlap, frequency exhaustion, and learn when to leverage Advantage+ campaigns effectively.

The Common Meta Ads Pattern

Most of the businesses I deal with every day come up with the same problem: their ROAS is very low, and the pattern, too, is surprisingly the same with most of them.

It goes like this: they watch a few videos about running Meta ads, and then they go on to set an ad campaign by themselves, pouring money into everything, or hiring an agency with low to no experience to deal with it.

In the beginning, they get good ROAS, but then cracks start to appear; it does not scale up or increase, and in some cases, it might even go down.

Now you might be wondering, “How do you help them?” That's why I am writing this down—so that not only our clients, but also you, can improve your ROAS by taking care of these key factors. Let's dive straight into it!

1. You Irritate Your Audience

Ad frequency is something that really affects your sales, but due to a lack of knowledge—or sometimes too much of it—most advertisers tend to bombard their audience with ads.

Think of it from an audience perspective: if you see the exact same ad again and again, you will surely get irritated and might skip the product entirely. It happens a lot, and then your ROAS just dips.

Action Step

Keep your ad frequency below 3 for cold audiences, and don't run the same ad repeatedly. Always test targeting a new or broader audience to keep creatives fresh and effective.

2. Your Landing Page Might Be Broken

Yup, it's that simple. Your landing page—which opens when somebody clicks on your link—might be so broken or badly optimized that your customers just leave or find it too shady to put in any information.

That defeats the whole purpose of running ads; you pay for them to come to your website, and they don't even buy anything! And then you wonder why your ROAS is so low.

In order to avoid a high bounce rate, optimize your landing page and make it great. That means providing a smoother user experience, avoiding complicated options, making it attractive enough that everybody likes it, and simple enough that everybody understands.

3. You Are Overlapping Your Audience

This is what usually happens when you make an ad campaign without prior experience or guidance, relying solely on a few YouTube tutorials.

Unstructured Ad Sets

  • No proper research or exclusions
  • Ad sets compete in the same auction
  • Bidding against your own campaigns
  • Drives up CPMs rapidly

Burns budget & reduces ROAS.

Segmented Targeting

  • Clear exclusions between ad sets
  • Distinct cold, warm, and hot segments
  • Cost-effective auction entry
  • Optimized spend per audience

Protects budget & maximizes profit.

4. Showing Ads in the Wrong Place or to the Wrong People

Anything at the wrong time or in the wrong place is problematic—be it in your personal life or in Meta ads. Wrong ad placement not only decreases your ROAS but also wastes your money, and it's a very common problem.

Most people run ads on Stories or Audience Network when the ad format isn't even optimized for those spots. They also continue running ads that are underperforming.

Wrong targeting is another huge problem. Setting up ad sets targeting the completely wrong audience leaves you wondering why you didn't get conversions. How are you supposed to get customers when targeting people who don't even need your offer? Targeting out of context is one of the biggest reasons for low ROAS.

Pro Tip

Review ad campaigns frequently to identify placement and audience disconnects early, then correct them swiftly.

5. Scaling Ads Without Experience

One of the most frequently made mistakes—and I cannot exaggerate how often I see this—is scaling an ad campaign too fast or too slow.

In Meta ads, timing and strategy are everything. When you get excited after seeing initial good results and suddenly pump money into one ad set expecting instant linear gains, you end up confusing the algorithm.

This ruins the whole ad set, leading to poor delivery, low conversions, and bad ROAS. Another mistake occurs when reusing a winning ad set without changing anything inside it—resulting in audience overlap and falling sales.

Should You Go for Advantage+?

I am not against AI—in fact, I use it more often than I’d like to admit—but certain tasks still require the human brain, and running Meta ads is one of them.

Conclusion

Advantage+ works best for advertisers who have already run extensive campaigns and whose Meta algorithm is sufficiently trained. In the beginning, always run manual campaigns to feed your Meta account proper data.

By taking care of ad frequency, landing page UX, audience exclusions, placements, and controlled scaling, your ROAS will significantly improve. Keep learning and growing!

Until then, Happy Digital Learning! 😍
